Main Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until they are well beaten.
2. Gradually add the sugar, whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth.
3. In a saucepan, combine the milk and cream. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
4. Slowly add the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.
5. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
7. Let the eggnog cool, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve cold, with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top if desired.
