Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine cherries and ½ cup sugar. Set aside.
In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining sugar. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
Pour batter into a greased baking dish. Spoon cherry mixture over the batter.
Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
