Main Ingredients
- 1 lb dried split peas
- 1 ham hock
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste
1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
2. In a large pot, combine the split peas, ham hock, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, and chicken broth.
3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until peas are tender.
4. Remove ham hock, shred the meat, and return it to the pot.
5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
