Texas Sheet Cake

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup butter
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting
- ½ cup butter
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup milk
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a sheet pan.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and cocoa powder to a boil. Pour over flour mixture and stir to combine.
Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
Pour batter into prepared sheet pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
For frosting, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Gradually stir in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
Pour frosting over warm cake. Let cool before serving.
